Student engagement ideas for OER’s:

I have discussed and explored the nature of OER’s with a group of new undergraduate students – my intention with this has been to encourage them to begin getting involved with OER materials. I have outlined the variety of locations and resources that are ‘freely’ available; also, I have invited the group to engage with the materials in various ways, (for example, revision, presentations, or, just to explore a particular theme/topic area out of their own academic interest).

I will be reconvening with the students in February (after the exam period), with a view to getting feedback on their experiences of using OER’s – to understand the strengths, weaknesses, uses, and/or limitations of the OER materials. I will follow this up by setting up a ‘surveymonkey’ questionnaire, so that the students can feedback their responses and/or ideas – this will also enable me to visualise and represent their experiences of OER’s.

Any particular areas of ‘limitation’, or identified usefulness, can maybe prompt further analysis and exploration for our wider ‘project’.
